Rhinda Elizabeth Soileau Hooper passed away on September 3, 2018 in Wimberley, Texas after a long decline due to Alzheimer’s disease. She was 76.
Rhinda was born in Lafayette, LA on November 27, 1941 to Joseph and Coda Soileau. She graduated in 1960 from French High School in Beaumont, Texas, and married her high school sweetheart, John Hooper, a few years later. She was a beloved and successful teaching assistant in Alvin, Texas after her own children started school. She retired after 19 years of teaching, and enjoyed a few years of traveling the country with her husband in their RV, which she called her “picture window on the world”.
Rhinda had a passion for taking care of others. She chose to work with children with special needs and behavior disorders. She also spent countless hours supporting her daughters’ dance schedules and preparing for recitals, even participating in a recital or two herself. She impressed everyone she met with her friendliness and warmth.
Rhinda is survived by her husband, John, and her daughter, Cynthia Dorsey, son-in-law Mark Dorsey and granddaughter, Abby Dorsey of San Antonio, TX and daughter Sandra Black and son-in-law Damon Black of Clear Lake Shores, TX. She is preceded in death by her brother, Noel Lee Soileau.
A private memorial will be held to honor and celebrate Rhinda’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rhinda’s name to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund (https://curealz.org/).
